Christian Mayo Hernandez, the recipient of the 2019 Bourke Wealth Management Scholarship award administered by the Santa Barbara Scholarship Foundation, is an enthusiastic student who has proved his work ethic and determination will not waver. We are thrilled to grant him this year’s scholarship. Congratulations, Christian!

Below are the letters we received from the Scholarship Foundation of Santa Barbara and from Christian himself.

“Christian Mayo Hernandez is a first-generation college student who will continue as a sophomore at the University of San Francisco this fall. He is studying finance and banking and hopes to pursue a career as a financial advisor. Christian has a 3.85 GPA and has spent time volunteering for Kids Helping Kids and as a tutor. Christian’s academic advisor writes that ‘Christian is mature and tenacious and helped his father and mother overcome severe economic hardship by taking on several duties including babysitting his 9 year old and 3 year old brother and sister.’ He writes in his essay that moving to college was extremely challenging, but that ‘I will try my absolute hardest in school so that one day I can repay those who invested in me, that’s what motivates me most.’

“Dear Bourke Wealth Management Scholarship Fund,

Thank you for helping me to pursue my dream of attaining a college education. Being a first-generation college student and being from a low-income family, it’s really important for me to be able to get as much financial aid to help pay for all my college expenses. With this scholarship I will be able to focus on my classes and classwork and not on how I will pay for my college education. This scholarship will give me the opportunity to continue attending a four-year University and to attain a college degree which will influence my future greatly.

Thank you for helping lift a weight not only off my shoulders but the shoulders of my parents since they worried about how I was going to pay for my college expenses. I will continue to work hard to make all those who believed in me and invested in my future proud. Thank you for believing in me and investing in my future, your help has made it easier for me to be able to pursue my dream of being a college graduate.

Sincerely,

Christian Mayo”
